This time of year brings a whole new set of fun fitness things to do in Edmonton. From outdoor rinks to indoor obstacle course racing, the winter certainly hasn't stopped us from having great events and experiences. Edmonton has really been trying to push the winter city theme for the past few years. We've managed to carry on our love of festivals, outdoor activities and unique events even into the deep cold. I remember when I was a kid growing up here and, yes we went out and played in the snow, but the city felt a bit like a wasteland when it came to other events and activities. Now you can barely keep track of all of the events going on every weekend!
Here are four of my recommendations for fun fitness things to do during November and December that I mentioned on my column on CBC Edmonton.
1) Fitset's Indoor Obstacle Course:
Imagine a giant indoor obstacle course that has been touted as the world's largest in Edmonton! Fitset has partnered up with Kingsway Mall to turn one of their spaces into a 50,000 square foot wall jumping, rope swinging good time. There's fun for everyone here as it's for all ages and fitness levels. You can probably spend the whole day there as they also have pop-up fitness classes, axe throwing, and something called a rage room... all in the same space.

2) Turkeys on the Trail:
If you're up for a fun running event, the fourth annual Turkeys on the Trail Run is on December 15. A bunch of my crazy running buddies have designed this trail run and donate all of the entry fees to the Edmonton Food Bank. You can do a kids 1 km run/walk, a 5km run/walk, 10 km run or a 25 km run. Parents: don't worry, they also have childcare so if you and your partner in crime want to run so fast you cook some turkeys on the trail you're set! Having said that, this year they are just taking monetary donations this year so that no turkey is left behind on the trail and the Food Bank can direct the funds to families in need.

3) Tacos and Yoga??
YegDate has been holding awesome date night (and friend night) activities for a few years now but definitely one of the most popular ones are the combination of yoga and... food, beer, and who knows. This one happens on November 29th and is in partnership with El Cortez. They're taking over the Tequilla Cellar in the restaurant and after a round of ohms you can fill your tummy with tacos. Register for this one early though, as the event books up every time.

It wouldn't be a Canadian list if I didn't mention skating. Good news folks; thanks to the cold blast that we had in September many of our outdoor rinks are open earlier than usual! Lace up and play an evening round of shinny, or, if you're like me, wobble around like a duck while trying to madly keep yourself from becoming one with the ice. It's still a great time to be out there and play around on the ice.
